My History:
I love papercrafting. I joined the world of scrapbookers when I was thirteen, and my mother gave me a scrapbook kit to address the shoe boxes full of pictures I had stashed around my room. I started out with a package of low-grade, neon-colored cardstock, a million Sandy Lion stickers, an enviable assortment of decorative-edged scissors, and a gluestick. Oh, gluesticks. I graduated to more sophisticated scrapbooking when I was fortunate enough to work for Archivers, and my small tote of supplies rapidly expanded into an entire wall of my office. While there, I also discovered a love of card-crafting and stamping, and I now pride myself on making all of my own stationary. Only other crafters understand the true meaning of "Christmas in July." In a desire to improve both my knowledge of product lines and my skills, I also started following numerous blogs online, and was introduced to the world of distressed art (go Tim Holtz!) and mixed media. In 2014, I joined the Project Life and Pocket Scrapping bandwagon. I'm in love. I believe the internet is a unique and awesome way to reach out to other artists and hobbyists to exchange ideas and techniques and support our creative drives.
Why Paper?
Why do I lump my projects in as "papercrafting" since I also incorporate mixed media? Well, I primarily work in paper. I love e-mail for convenience, but I believe nothing can replace the feel of a letter in the mail. I love to view pictures of friends and family online instantly, but nothing replaces the conversation that a scrapbook can spark. Paper is a personal medium, it is alive and interactive, and most of all it leaves a tangible record of a person's existence. I hope someday my great grandchildren (biological or honorary!) will find a dusty box in the corner of an attic or basement filled with letters, cards, and trinkets that let them know a little bit about me.
Additional Content:
I do love other mediums, too, so I post those as they come up. I like to sew, but I'm pretty clumsy at it, and I enjoy experimenting in edible crafting, particularly of the dessert sort, as well. Photography is a critical element of papercrafting as well as a standalone skill and I love to take pictures. Finally, I'm a bit addicted to organization, so expect to see all of those things on here as well. Check out my other blogs for posts on the other major (non-crafting) loves of my life.
Interests:
I enjoy cooking, socializing, reading, sewing, and gaming. I recently planted my first container garden. (Update: Woo! Tomatoes and Peppers = Success.) Hockey is my favorite sport, scotch is my favorite adult beverage, salt scrubs are better than sugar scrubs, and a stiff breakfast tea might be better than coffee, but I'm still undecided. Oh, and if I had to live anywhere but here, I'd live in Scotland.
